The biggest challenge of software testing community is to adequately test software products/applications in hyper
competitive market space where time to market is of highest essence. As a result software product/application gets
released even before the product becomes adequately stable and is infused with dream quality. Especially with
software products catering to different organizations with different needs in terms of functionality and technology ,the
situation gets more complicated. One challenge which the product companies are facing is in the space of
interoperability in different technologies.
Also the products can be developed from the scratch as a green field development and the products may be in
sustenance engineering phase. Challenges of testing in these scenarios are different. For testing adequacy situation
gets worse when the product goes through frequent releases. Classical approach of testing will not be able to answer
these complications .It is imperative that under the circumstances the test manager need to put the hat of a business
manager and plan things accordingly and ROI of test effort becomes one very important parameter, not only the
defect detection.
This paper presents a testing strategy on how risk based testing approach can be effectively utilized to face these
challenges and we get maximum value for money of the testing effort

from B.E. College, Calcutta University. He is also specialized in lean six sigma and he is certified lean six sigma Green
Belt. MCP and MCDBA certifications from Microsoft also go to his credit. Also he is certified in ITIL foundation
course.
Subhasis has also presented papers in various conferences like in QAI, step-in auto summit. His paper “challenges of
testing in SPO organization” was selected amongst the best 16 papers in this forum and he was one of the speakers in
this conference in 2007. Also he was one of the speakers in 4th International Colloquium on IT Service Management
organized by QAI and his paper in “lean six sigma in ITIL service management” was selected in top 20 papers.
