The aim of this paper is to investigate different approaches adopted to analyze the defects found during the execution
of a Software Testing project and attempts to suggest the most credible approach to be used in resolving the weak
areas. While exploring strengths and weaknesses of various approaches, the paper also explains why it is necessary
to perform an effective defect analysis before heading towards another testing project for achieving satisfactory
results. The contents are based on various methodology used in performing defect analysis for a mobile handset
testing project, in L&T Infotech. In investigating different approaches, this paper gives technical data and statistics
generated during the execution of the project to substantiate investigations. The information presented is targeted to
readers who have a basic understanding of testing. The approach can be used by any industry to perform an effective
defect analysis.
