At a time when leadership is a critical concern and when individuals need to find ways to marshal resources with ever-dwindling budgets, |
project management has never played a more important role in our global economy. As the individuals who will lead the small and large projects essential to tackle the economic and social challenges of the decade ahead, information and new insights are critical elements in determining who will lead and who will follow. More information means more authority and a competitive edge in an ever-more-competitive marketplace. The International Project Management Leadership Conference offers just the kinds of information
that can make the distinction between getting the job done and getting the job done well. |

"To create a world to which others want to belong." It occurs to me that this should be the vision of this year's PML conference. Who would |
not want to belong to an organization, a world, with improved top and bottom line performance and enhanced competency? As we emerge from worldwide economic challenges, we need more than "better, faster, and cheaper." Operational and business excellence means becoming agile, and doing more with less means missed budgets and schedules must become a thing of the past. Learn how this is done at this year's PML! |

A critical success factor for improving project management performance in any organization is to apply situationally specific |
methodologies. These are methodologies that are tailored to the types of projects being undertaken. For instance, Construction projects, which are characterized by relatively low speed and low change, require a more prescriptive and traditional project management approach. On the other hand, projects that are discovery oriented (many unknowns, lots of change) require an adaptive and agile approach in order to stay in control and deliver business value.By applying project management methodologies that are incompatible with the project domain, it is quite common for an organization to foreclose on millions of dollars in revenues and profits because of missed market opportunities and loss of competitive advantage due to the illusion that effective project management is taking place.Applying situationally specific project management methodologies is a most important task for effective project management leadership. |
