While project management has lot of scientific aspect to it in terms of tools, techniques & processes, managing a project involves a lot of art in terms of managing people. This is where soft skills play an important role in the success or failure of a project/program.
The key is to identify the need & map the various project roles in an organization – project control, project lead, project manager, program manager etc. While we lay down the functional competencies for the roles, we should also chart out the leadership competencies. From this we can derive the soft skills training program for project managers.
Soft skills like the functional skills are an integral part of a project manager’s toolkit & to be successful, organization should invest & develop both aspects to create leaders & that’s what project managers are.
