Virtualization, private clouds, virtual desktops and on-demand environments are horizons that have now started to come in clear sight. It is just a matter of time before all IT organizations follow this virtual trend.

In this paper, the authors have provided objective insights from Infosys research and experience on key Service Management elements that need to be focused upon, in order to be better prepared to adopt cloud into their IT shops.

The authors have shared details about Service Management elements to be modified, made redundant or incrementally built upon for effective management of virtualized environments. These elements are referred to as the "Thunderbolts" in the Cloud.

Meet
Arvind Raman in his current role, leads emerging areas such as Cloud Computing, Virtualization and Green IT. He is an ITILŪ V2 Service Manager and has led ITILŪ implementations for several large F-500 organizations. He is also an official reviewer with OGC for forthcoming changes to ITILŪ V3. He has experience in ITILŪ consulting for Fortune 500 customers of Infosys and has spoken at international forums.

Gautam Nadkarni has wide experience in ITILŪ assessments, ITSM solutions, ITILŪ Masters and is IT Transformation specialist. In his current role, he leads the group's efforts in the APAC Region. He also carries with him experience in consulting on Environments Transformation, ITILŪ, CMMIŪ, Six Sigma, etc. He has experience in ITILŪ consulting for Fortune 500 customers of Infosys and has spoken at international forums.

Rishi Pattnaik in his current role is involved in conducting Infrastructure Strategy and Effectiveness (ISE) assessments and consulting for organizations as well as building the ISE Capability within the group. He has rich experience of managing large programs for a Fortune 5 company. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and ITILŪ Practitioner Certified in Support and Restore (IPSR). He has experience in ITILŪ consulting for Fortune 500 customers of Infosys and has spoken at international forums.
